How does naturopathy support men’s health?

Quick answer: Men’s health concerns — including fatigue, stress, weight gain, low testosterone, digestive issues, and fertility — respond well to naturopathic support. I take a thorough, root-cause approach to identify the hormonal, metabolic, and nutritional drivers behind your symptoms rather than treating them in isolation.

While my practice sees many women, men’s health is an important and growing part of my work. Men often come to me after years of dismissing symptoms or being told that stress, fatigue, or weight gain are “just part of getting older.” In most cases, there are identifiable physiological drivers that can be addressed.

Men are also less likely to have had comprehensive blood work done, which means underlying issues — thyroid dysfunction, insulin resistance, nutrient deficiencies, hormonal decline — often go undetected for years.

What men’s health concerns do you commonly see?

Fatigue and low energy: Often driven by a combination of stress, poor sleep, blood sugar dysregulation, iron or vitamin D deficiency, and suboptimal thyroid function. I assess all of these rather than attributing fatigue to lifestyle alone.

Stress, burnout, and mood: The HPA axis doesn’t discriminate by gender. Chronic work stress, sleep deprivation, and overtraining deplete cortisol reserves and disrupt neurotransmitter balance. Many men present with irritability, poor concentration, and loss of motivation that responds well to targeted adrenal and nervous system support.

Weight gain and metabolic health: Abdominal weight gain in men is commonly driven by insulin resistance, elevated cortisol, declining testosterone, and gut microbiome imbalances. I address the metabolic and hormonal factors rather than recommending more exercise or fewer calories.

Digestive health: Bloating, reflux, IBS, and irregular bowel habits are as common in men as women but less frequently discussed. The same gut-health approach applies — identifying whether dysbiosis, low stomach acid, SIBO, or food sensitivities are driving the symptoms.

How do you support male fertility?

Male fertility is genuinely half the equation, and sperm quality has declined significantly over recent decades. My approach focuses on optimising sperm count, motility, morphology, and DNA integrity through targeted nutrition — zinc (essential for testosterone and sperm development), selenium (protects sperm DNA from oxidative damage), CoQ10 (supports mitochondrial function and motility), and omega-3 fatty acids (Salas-Huetos et al., 2017, Human Reproduction Update).

I also address lifestyle factors that impair sperm quality: heat exposure, environmental toxins, alcohol, smoking, poor sleep, and chronic stress. Visible improvement in sperm parameters typically takes three months, reflecting the 72-day sperm development cycle.

What does a men’s health consultation involve?

The same thorough 90-minute assessment I offer all clients. I take a comprehensive health history, assess your diet, sleep, stress, exercise, digestive function, and energy patterns, then recommend targeted blood work. You leave with a personalised health plan explaining what we’re addressing and why — practical, evidence-based, and designed around your life.
