Quick answer: Your first naturopath consultation is typically 90 minutes covering your full health history, diet, lifestyle, sleep, stress, hormones, and digestion. Bring recent blood tests, a medication list, and notes on your main concerns. No referral is needed. You’ll leave with a personalised health plan explaining what to do and why.
If you've never seen a naturopath before, you might be wondering what it's actually like. Is it going to be weird? Will I be judged for my diet? Do I need to bring anything? The short answer is: it's a thorough, relaxed conversation about your health — and there's absolutely no judgement.
The most helpful thing you can do is bring any recent blood test results, a list of current medications and supplements, and a few notes about your main health concerns. You don't need to prepare a formal document — just having these things on hand helps me make the most of our time together.
You don't need a referral from a GP or any other practitioner. Simply get in touch to arrange an appointment.
Your initial consultation is 90 minutes — significantly longer than a standard GP appointment. This time allows me to build a comprehensive picture of your health, covering your health history and any previous diagnoses, your current symptoms and how they affect your daily life, your diet in detail — what you eat, when, and how it makes you feel, your sleep patterns, stress levels, and energy, your menstrual cycle (for women) and hormonal health, your digestive function, and your lifestyle, exercise habits, and environment.
This is a conversation, not an interrogation. I ask a lot of questions because understanding the full picture is how I identify patterns and root causes that might otherwise be missed.
A GP is trained to diagnose and treat specific conditions, often through medication. A naturopath is trained to look at the whole person — understanding how your diet, lifestyle, stress, gut health, and hormones all interact. This whole-person approach aligns with the growing body of evidence linking dietary patterns to health outcomes via the gut microbiome. A 2025 systematic review in *The FASEB Journal* (Muigano et al.) found that distinct dietary patterns — from Mediterranean to Western — have profoundly different effects on gut microbial communities, immune regulation, and disease prevention, underscoring the importance of personalised nutritional assessment. The two approaches complement each other well, which is why I always encourage clients to maintain their relationship with their GP alongside naturopathic care.
This is where I'm told my approach is different. After your consultation finishes, I dedicate extra time to building you a personalised health plan. This plan explains not only what you need to do, but why — so you understand the reasoning behind each recommendation and can follow through with confidence.
Your plan may include dietary changes, herbal medicine, nutritional supplements, and lifestyle strategies. Everything is explained clearly, and I'm available if questions come up between appointments.
This varies. Some clients experience meaningful improvement after one or two sessions. More complex or chronic conditions may benefit from ongoing support over several months. I'll discuss a realistic timeline with you based on your individual situation — there's never pressure to commit to more appointments than you need.
If you're curious about naturopathy but not sure if it's right for you, feel free to call or message me. I'm happy to have a chat before you commit to anything.
